While I’m working out at the gym earlier today, one of the trainers, Rodney, approaches me.
“You write for a newspaper, right, Sean?”
Yeah.
“Okay, I was wondering if you could help me out. Actually I was wondering if you could do something for my ex-wife. She’s not happy at her current job and wants to get back to doing what she used to, selling advertising for newspapers. She used to work for the Washington Post. you know.”
Well, I say, I don’t work in advertising for my newspaper but I’d be willing to pass along her resume. But I have a question, why did she leave the post?
“Ah, well, she liked the job and all but they offered her six figures and a chance to be a manager if she would to leave the Post for her current job. So she takes it. Then she finds out they want her to work more than 40 hours a week. And she’s like, ‘I’m only 30. I still want to hang out with my friends.’”
So let me understand this correctly: She just turned 30 and is making six figures and she’s upset that she has to work more than 40 hours a week?
Rodney thinks about this for second, then says: “You know, Sean, on second thought, never mind. There’s a hell of a lot more I would put up with for six figures.”
