Ugh. Enough already with the ridiculous speculation about the true significance of Rev. Pat Robertson’s Rudy Giuliani endorsement. So far, W. James Antle III is about the only person who’s gotten it right.
Robertson’s endorsement matters because millions of evangelicals and ( “and Pentecostals”; let’s not forget them) watch the reverend’s 700 Club and Christian Broadcasting Network as a major source of news. The endorsement will mean that the coverage of Giuliani on Robertson’s media is positive, and the former New York mayor’s social liberal record will be downplayed or ignored. Which will give religious conservatives less reason to oppose Giuliani or get behind one of his opponents.
